While Cornell has a more rigorous program and the label of an ivy league school. I am more leaning to transferring to Ohio State for couple reasons.
1. Ohio State is in a small scene tends to revolve around the university whereas Columbia is in a bigger city called New York and it would make me feel a little uneasy having lived in a small city most of my life.
2. The social life of the University is pretty good in comparison to Columbia. All my friends of Ohio State have things to do in their frame time where my Columbia friends only have free time really on weekends and sometimes thats not free.
3. While both programs are rigorous. I believe that Ohio State will be less competition in sense more students willing to help others and they will have more resources being a bigger school (more tutors, study groups).
4. With exception of physics, general chemistry, and calculus which I have a pretty strong background on and had good teachers, alot of the courses that would have been recommended to take prior to Columbia (Computer Science, O. Chem) I learned less because my university does not move at the same pace like Columbia. Whereas at Ohio State these courses are part of the graduation plan meaning that if I take them I can still finish in 2 years and I wont miss out on anything I would have needed to know.
5. While I do realize where you go has an impact on jobs I think its more important that you do well where you go (like 3.3 and higher) as opposed going to an ivy league school and just barely passing and not shining over everyone else.
